Medical Robotics discuss

Discuss the medical robotics. As part of the celebration of 35 years of the Metropolitan Polyclinic on Thursday May 20 will be held in the auditorium of the institution, a panel discussion on the usefulness of the robot in laparoscopic surgery “Robotic technology in surgery is here to stay, so the surgeon general said Wilson Mourad, the Educational Diagnostic Center, one of the first three Venezuelan doctors who were trained in robotic surgery in the United States, who in July 2006 made the first operation carried out in Venezuela with the Da Vinci robot.

Mourad, who is part of the panel along with Dr. Margarita Waich, Elias Mora, Herman Rodriguez, Jose Benchimol, Nelson Medero, Jesus Salazar, and Ariel Kaufman, presented the paper Robotic Surgery in General Medicine, based on the experience of medicine in Venezuela these last four years, in reference to the usefulness of this technology in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery (intervention through holes), making a critical evaluation of their effectiveness for the benefit of the patient.

According to Mourad, “the robots came to search his implements versatility because they move like human fingers, with the advantage that their arms reach as far as humans can not.

The doctor handles the camera and the console sees the elements 16 times larger than the original size, thus reducing the possibility of affecting blood vessels and nerves and causes minimal bleeding. At present, medical robotics has applications in General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, ENT / Neck, Gynecology, Pediatric Surgery and Urology.

The coordinator of that round table, which will be held on Thursday 20 May, between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm in the Auditorium of Metropolitan Polyclinic, is Dr. Elias Mora, urologist at that institution, who notes that this event will be held within the framework of the celebration of 35 years of this prestigious medical institution and is part of the annual scientific sessions of the same.

“The event, free entry and free of charge, is aimed at medical students in their final years of medicine and the media. That is to say that the group of specialists will also seek to compare the private and public medicine. ”

Dr. Mora will deploy a 10-minute introduction to the passage of nine experts in various branches of medical science, who will discuss “interventions of 5 to 7 minutes, the benefits of robotic technology in their respective areas of action. “The robotic medicine there since 1999 but it was not until 2001, when it receives approval from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) official U.S. agency that regulates health issues in that country. Subsequently, in 2006 Venezuela joined this advanced technology. ”

Main benefits:

While it is true that in the first world countries like the United States, its use is increasing use of robotic technology is not indicated in all cases, but thanks to the advantages offered by the patient (minimally invasive surgery , absence of pain and bleeding, reduced hospital stay and prompt return of the patient), and has been widely distributed, these increasingly request. It is therefore we say that this advanced technology is here to stay for the benefit of mankind, “says Dr. Wilson completed Mourad.
