Back to life teeth rather than remove them, thanks to a special nano -film

Scientists are reporting an advance toward the next big revolution in dental treatment – the era in which root canal therapy diseased teeth back to life , instead of leaving a tooth “non vital ” or killed in the mouth. In a report in the Journal ACS NanoThey describe a dental film first of its kind , nano size , which shows initial promise for achieving this long-awaited goal.

Nadia Benkirane – Jessel and his colleagues suggest that root canal procedures to help prevent tooth loss in millions of people every year. During the procedure, a dentist removes the inflamed and painful pulp , the soft tissue inside the sick or injured tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. Regenerative endodontics , development and delivery of tissues to replace diseased or damaged dental pulp has the potential to provide a revolutionary alternative to the removal of the pulp.

Scientists are reporting development of a nano -sized multilayer film containing a substance that could help regenerate the dental pulp. Previous studies show that the substance called alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone or alpha- MSH, anti-inflammatory properties .

The scientists showed in laboratory tests that alpha -MSH in combination with a polymer widely used produce a material that fights inflammation in dental pulp fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are the main type of cell found in the dental pulp . The nano- films containing alpha- MSH also increased the number of these cells. This could help revitalize damaged teeth and reduce the need for root canal treatment , the scientists suggest.
